5 Things Donald Trump Teaches Us About How To Lose Weight

  1. You can do anything if you set your mind to it. You can do the impossible. You can do the impossible. Indeed, nothing is impossible. Things might be unlikely.. but not impossible. Losing weight and keeping it off is, statistically, unlikely. Only 4% of people who lose weight actually keep it off. Thus, losing weight and keeping it off isn’t impossible. Neither, it seems, is Donald Trump becoming President!

  1. The best way to achieve things is to do it your way. Forget what everyone else says. Forget they way everyone else does it. Do it your way and you will succeed.
  1. ‘If you can keep your head about you’….

As Rudyard Kipling wrote in his poem “If”

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;

If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,

And stoop and build ’em up with wornout tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run –

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!

Over the past months, Trump has been able to absorb an enormous amount of pressure. He didn’t quit. He stuck to his guns. Right or wrong. He kept his head (for the most part anyway!)

  1. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have as much money as anyone else (Clinton’s campaign was apparently 100 times more funded than Trump’s!). It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the people skills, or have many friends. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a good support network (although it helps) and it certainly doesn’t matter if you don’t have the right hair! You can lose weight. You can keep it off.

5.  You don’t need to believe to achieve…. And you don’t need anyone else to believe that you will achieve either. Just do it (as Nike says). Just do the work. Stay on the journey. Keep going. Try to be as consistent as you can (and when you aren’t then don’t beat yourself up too much). Learn from your mistakes. Keep going. Keep trying. Keep losing weight. Keep keeping it off. If Trump can become president then you can surely lose those kilos!
