The Big Three: Protein, Fats, and Carbohydrates

You've probably heard of these three food types, and know they're important – but what exactly are proteins, fats, and carbohydrates?

Protein

Protein is essential to growing and repairing muscles and other body tissues. Every one of your cells produces some sort of protein: without it, your body couldn't function.

Fats

Not all fats are created equal: fats give food texture and substance, and 'good' fats, such as those found in nuts or olive oil, are essential for good health. Fat is also an important source of energy.

Carbohydrates

Everyone needs a certain amount of carbohydrates. Without them, you'll feel tired, sluggish, and weak. The body can produce energy from protein and fats alone, but carbohydrates are an essential part of that process.
